With the coronavirus pandemic forcing millions of Americans indoors and Nevada’s stay at home order extended through the end of April, Dr. Vivienne Velasco and iFocus Vision Center are taking steps to ensure patients have seamless access to their eye care and prescription needs.
Because iFocus Vision Center is taking extra precautions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, Dr. Velasco is not scheduling any non-urgent eye exams. The office remains open at a limited capacity – Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — but no one is allowed inside without an appointment.
Below, Dr. Velasco addresses some common questions to help patients navigate the crisis.
Q: What do I do if I have an eye emergency?
Dr. Velasco: If you have an eye emergency — sudden loss of vision, red or painful eye, sudden flashes of light and/or floaters — do not go to urgent care or the emergency room. Call iFocus Vision Center first at 702-473-5660. We have a 24-hour emergency care line available, where we can triage you over the phone and determine if it is necessary for you to come in to the office to be seen.
Q: What should I do I need new glasses?
Dr. Velasco: If you are a patient who cannot function or complete daily tasks without new eyeglasses, this is considered urgent, and we will see those patients on a case-by-case basis. If you are a patient in need of replacement frames, we can duplicate previous orders and ship replacements for free.
Q: What about my contact lens refills?
Dr. Velasco: For anyone who needs contact lens refills, we are extending recently expired prescriptions for 90 days so that they can order contact lenses. All contact lens orders are shipped for free.
Q: What if I need new contact lenses?
Dr. Velasco: Although the coronavirus pandemic has limited our hours, if a patient is having trouble seeing with their current contact lenses and does not have a backup pair of glasses, we may see them for an exam to update their prescription.
