What to expect during an eye exam
During a comprehensive eye exam at iFocus Vision Center, we cover all aspects of your visual health. This includes testing your visual acuity (how well you see at a distance), checking for any issues with eye muscle teaming, evaluating your color vision and depth perception, and assessing the health of the front of your eyes. Our comprehensive eye exams in Las Vegas also include a refraction test to determine your glasses or contact lenses prescription. We use advanced tools like an autorefractor and digital phoropter to determine your precise eyeglass prescription quickly and accurately. The autorefractor measures how light enters your eye and provides an initial estimate of your prescription, while the digital phoropter allows us to fine-tune the prescription by conducting a series of lens comparisons.
Another key test Dr. Velasco may perform is visual field testing using the Virtual Field. This innovative technology allows her to assess your peripheral (or side) vision and detect any potential blind spots or vision loss that could indicate glaucoma or other vision problems. The virtual reality-based visual field test makes the testing process interactive and engaging. Dilated eye exam

This process involves using eye drops to widen your pupils so that Dr. Velasco can get a clear view of the inside of your eye. While dilation may seem like a nuisance, it is the most important part of your overall eye health assessment. A dilated exam allows our eye doctor to check for signs of serious conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other diseases that can cause vision loss if left untreated.
Optomap retinal imaging
We recommend getting an Optomap scan every time you have an eye exam. Optomap retinal imaging from Optos is a non-invasive procedure that produces a detailed image of your retina in seconds. This ultra-widefield digital image provides valuable information about your overall eye health and can help Dr. Velasco detect early signs of retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. These images become a permanent part of your medical file, so our eye doctor can track any changes or progression in conditions over time.
iWellness Scan
iWellness Scans can also be performed as a part of your comprehensive eye exam. This state-of-the-art exam uses spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) to produce cross-sectional images of the layers of your retina. The iWellness Scan is like an MRI or CT scan for your eyes, allowing us to diagnose sight-threatening conditions and diseases that may not be visible during a traditional eye exam.
